New Shaft Seal Weeping Within Three Months and a Wear Mark on the Shaft? NL-PMS-6 Mechanical Seal and Axial Load Bench, Six Stations (pump performance test)

Popularity:5Time of publication:2026/10/27 9:12:44

Pumps that stay perfectly dry for the first few days, then weep at the shaft seal within two or three months, and come apart with a wear mark around the shaft and a dry-running scar on the seal faces. Mechanical seal failure is rarely a material choice problem; duty eats the life instead: a short dry run, abrasive particles in the medium, axial shocks from frequent starting, or a misaligned installation — any one of them alone can wear a face pair through in tens of hours. Type testing on the line usually runs the rated point for a few hours, so whether the seal still holds after a 30-second dry run, an abrasive medium and two thousand starts is unknown before shipment; when the floor under the customer’s unit is wet, the whole batch comes back and the freight and downtime sit with the manufacturer.

What the NL-PMS-6 mechanical seal and axial load bench measures

  • Six stations in parallel, each with its own water circuit and drive, individually programmed for speed, medium, abrasive loading and start-stop profile (the seal and reliability branch of a pump performance test)
  • Dry-run tolerance: a set dry period followed by restored flow, logging leakage, face temperature rise and whether sealing recovers
  • Frequent starting: start-stop cycles at a realistic household rate of dozens a day, with the leakage trend logged every thousand cycles
  • Axial load and vibration logged together: three-axis vibration and axial displacement recorded in sync to locate the duty point where the seal is offset-loaded
  • Abrasive and aerated media: set particle size and concentration to quantify face wear rate and the effectiveness of the flush arrangement
  • Quantified micro-leakage: collected liquid weighed, so leakage in the 0.1mL per hour range is resolved without waiting for a drip
  • Temperature rise and input power: friction signature used as an early warning of impending failure
  • Barcode and batch binding, with raw data exported per unit for seal and shaft sleeve lot comparison

Applicable standards

GB/T 3216 (rotodynamic pumps – hydraulic performance acceptance tests), GB/T 5656 (centrifugal pumps – technical conditions), JB/T 4127.1 (mechanical seals – technical conditions), GB/T 29531 (measurement and evaluation of vibration in pumps) and GB/T 2828 sampling; criteria can follow the customer’s standard and the seal type.

Stations and throughput

Six stations running continuously compress a “fit it and run for a few days” verification into leakage, axial load and temperature data, so different seal and sleeve combinations can be compared in one batch. Incoming seals, pump assembly and end-of-line units can all be sampled batch by batch, stopping early weeping and field rework before shipment.
