An instant water heater or electric hot-water tap sits under the sink with a thick-film, cast-aluminium or quartz-tube heater: narrow waterways, high power density. In hard-water areas a scale layer forms within three to five months. The change is continuous. Thermal resistance rises first, so at the same power the outlet temperature falls and the user keeps turning the knob up. Then the scale narrows the channel: flow drops, wall temperature climbs, the over-temperature cut-out and thermostat cycle more often, and the hand at the tap feels hot-cold-hot-cold. The line check for such a unit is usually thirty seconds of running water — if it comes out warm it ships. The thermostatic behaviour after three months of scaling, the flow decay and the number of protection trips have no number at all.
Safety to GB 4706.1 and GB 4706.11 (particular requirements for instantaneous water heaters), on the same basis as IEC 60335-2-35; controllers and protection to GB/T 14536.1 (automatic electrical controls for household use); wetted parts assessed to GB/T 17219. Accelerated scaling ratio, thermostatic deviation limits and flow-decay criteria can follow the customer standard, sampling to GB/T 2828.
Four stations on graded hardness run continuously and deliver a full heater history from new to heavily scaled inside a week. The “warm water, ship it” check becomes a decay report with thermal-resistance curves, flow decay and protection trip counts. Incoming heaters, appliance-level thermostatic matching and after-sales hot-cold complaints share one bench.
