Storage water heaters produce two opposite complaints about one small part. When the tank bulges or a joint lets go, the relief valve never lifted at set pressure — spring fatigue or a stuck seat let the set point wander far outside its band. And when the same valve drips around the clock, the household files it as a leaking heater, though the real fault is a worn sealing face that never reseats cleanly. Production usually samples one or two valves on a manual rig: no per-unit set-point record, no proof the discharge path passes enough flow, no reseat differential, no thermal check. Service ends up blamed from both sides with no valve data on the table.
GB 4706.1 (household appliances – general safety), GB 4706.12 (storage water heaters – particular requirements), GB/T 12243 (spring-loaded safety valves), IEC 60335-2-21 and GB/T 2828 sampling; set-pressure band and discharge criteria can follow the customer’s standard and valve specification.
Four stations running continuously replace “sample one, press once” with per-unit lift points, discharge curves and tightness data in one pass — so incoming valves, heater matching and end-of-line sampling share one bench, keeping bulged tanks and drip complaints out of the field.
